What are orthotics?

Orthotics are shoe inserts. They usually come in a one-size-fits-all configuration. You can buy these over-the-counter inserts, but custom-fitted orthotics are specifically designed by Dr. Hansen to cushion and support your feet.

Orthotics can be made of different materials to suit specific purposes, for example:

Rigid orthotics

Rigid or functional orthotics are made of hard materials like plastic and carbon fiber. They ease foot aches and strains and support the alignment of your legs.

Soft orthotics

Soft or accommodative orthotics take the pressure off uncomfortable parts of your feet. This kind of orthotic is usually made from soft, spongy material.

Dr. Hansen examines your feet and your gait (the way you walk). He then takes 3D images of your feet using a laser scanner to design a mold. Dr. Hansen uses the mold of your foot to create your custom-fitted orthotics. Properly designed orthotics give you the support you need without causing imbalances in other parts of your feet, ankles, legs, or back.
